We keep our promises: the first results of the memorandum between TECHIIA and the Ministry of Digital Transformation

The development of the local esports industry, the support of the Ukrainian IT industry and startup ecosystem, and an innovative course at the university are among the projects that TECHIIA managed to implement according to a memorandum with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

In October 2020, the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the international technology holding TECHIIA signed a memorandum to promote the development of esports, IT industry, and STEM education, as well as the construction of data centers in Ukraine. Here is what was done by the partners for more than a year of cooperation.

Making Ukraine a significant place on the esports map of the world

TECHIIA in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Esports Federation is conducting the first study of the industry in order to form a strategy for the development of esports at the state level.

WePlay Esports, with TECHIIA Holding as one of the investors, is becoming not only a synonym of esports in Ukraine but also a symbol of technological Ukraine and its brand ambassador in the international arena. In 2021, the company held 5 big tournaments, including WePlay AniMajor Dota 2 — the largest international tournament in the history of Ukraine. Teams from more than 20 countries took part in it, and the matches had more than 37 million views - a record among DPC majors in the world.

WePlay Esports has involved world boxing stars in the promotion of esports — together with world boxing champions Oleksandr Usyk and Vasyl Lomachenko, they founded the WUFL esports fighting league.

In 2021, cooperation with the Ukrainian Esports Federation became even stronger — WePlay Esports became a technical partner of the first official Dota 2 and CS: GO tournaments, as well as held the CS: GO Kyiv Student Cup and inclusive CS: GO #WECAN series tournaments.

Strengthening the IT and startup ecosystem of Ukraine

In 2021, TECHIIA Holding helped to update the Ukrainian IT industry information online portal 360 Tech Ecosystem Overview. It has sections on investors, R&D centers, and IT education. Thus, TECHIIA's joint efforts with the Ministry of Digital Transformation make Ukraine's IT ecosystem even more visible on the global stage.

Yura Lazebnikov, the Managing Partner of TECHIIA Holding, has joined the board of experts of the Ukrainian Startup Fund, and his voice is taken into account when evaluating projects to receive angel investments from the Fund.

Experts from the holding companies also became judges and mentors at YEP!, The Founders Club, ISE Corporate Accelerator, and others.

Moreover, TECHIIA joined the project to study the IT industry of Ukraine held by the IT Ukraine Association and started cooperation with the European Association of Software Engineering.

Supporting the development of STEM education in Ukraine

Last year, the first set of the "Computer Animation Director" specialized course was launched at the Kyiv National Ivan Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University, initiated by the WePlay Esports team. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a bachelor's degree of international standard and will be able to create spectacular esports shows in the company's arenas.

TECHIIA supported a number of STEM initiatives in Ukrainian universities and their students. WePlay Esports co-founded the "PR and Newsmaking in ESports” course at the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine.

In 2022, TECHIIA plans to participate in the joint development of Ukrainian esports strategy together with the Government, business, and society, launch a national esports award, launch its own venture fund and continue to support initiatives of industry, education, and student communities of Ukraine.
